Women in Chemicals Appoints First Full-Time Executive Director
Great Neck, NY — November 22, 2024 — Women in Chemicals (WIC) is excited to announce the appointment of Amber Thichangthong as its first full-time Executive Director. Amber will begin her role on January 1, 2025, marking a pivotal step forward for Women in Chemicals as the organization transitions from an entirely volunteer-led team, amplifying its reach and impact across the industry.
Amber joins Women in Chemicals with over 20 years of experience in nonprofit and membership-based organizations. Her leadership will play a vital role in building the Women in Chemicals community, expanding resources, and strengthening partnerships with key industry stakeholders as WIC approaches the 5th Anniversary of its founding in 2026.
"Women are leading powerful movements of change within chemical companies, and Women in Chemicals is an organizational powerhouse for connection and resources. I am honored to be selected as the new Executive Director of Women in Chemicals and build upon the legacy created by the WIC Board of Directors and Leadership Team," Amber said. "Together, we will expand opportunities, enhance collaboration, and build a leadership pipeline for women in the chemical industry.”
In her previous role as Senior Director of Industry Relations at the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA), Amber managed a $1.5 million operational budget and was integral in SOCMA's brand development, including a major rebrand in 2019 and the successful relaunch of the SOCMA Show and Summit. Her expertise in association management and strategic planning, coupled with her deep understanding of the chemical industry, position her as a key asset to Women in Chemicals as it continues its mission to support and advance women in this sector.
Women in Chemicals has experienced remarkable growth since its founding, with an expanding network and increasing industry influence. This leadership transition will allow the organization to continue offering essential resources, events, and advocacy, benefitting women professionals across the chemical industry.
"As we celebrate this milestone, I am deeply grateful for the growth and impact our Women in Chemicals community has achieved together. Amber’s experience, dedication, and genuine belief in our mission make her the perfect fit to lead us into this next chapter,” said Amelia Greene, current Executive Director and co-founder of Women in Chemicals. “With her at the helm, we’re well-positioned to expand our reach, strengthen our resources, and continue supporting women across the industry as we tackle the challenges ahead.”
Positioned for Continued Growth
As Executive Director, Amber Thichangthong’s responsibilities will include overseeing board management, strategic planning, conference planning, and corporate governance.
